Goals are not only about getting there but also about doing so in a healthy and ethical way.

My inbox has been enriched by K.T. Shepherds newsletter today just in time as I was thinking about working on my diploma designs which need to make their way to Carla Moss for assessment.

S.H.M.A.R.T.E.R what?

It looks very much like an adaptation of the well established SMART goals tool which is quite commonly taught not only in permaculture design courses but also in project management. In this case however it bears the influence of other permaculture teachers including Heather Jo Flores and Leonie Dawson.

Specific
Healthy
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Timebound
Ethical
Rewarding

What I particularly like about this tool enhancement is specifically the Healthy and the Ethical elements. Particularly as life is is so full that I feel on the edge of a burnout, Healthy is something that I feel missing on my part and Ethical has been the center of much controversy in my professional life recently.

In fact I think I am going to be using this tool in my next personal design and perhaps even my professional one!
